Golf World #1 Issue - Volume 1, Number 1 - Published at Pinehurst - June 18, 1947
Relive history with this first issue of Golf World, which became a weekly magazine covering the game of golf in detail beginning with this Volume 1, Number 1 issue published at Pinehurst. The first issue was published on June 18, 1947 and shows Sam Snead and Lew Worsham sharing a laugh while looking at Worsham's putter. This first issue magazine remains in excellent condition, showing only minor staining, see photos for more detail. Golf World has been published by Condé Nast since 2001, when the New York Times Company ended its 13 year run as the publisher. Golf World is the oldest golf publication in the U.S. and covers the game in full detail, including the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, Champions Tour, Nationwide Tour, European Tour, and amateur events around the United States and internationally. As a weekly, they were the only magazine to offer in-depth previews and coverage of all the major championships. In July 2014, Golf World no longer produced paper copies of the weekly magazine, moving to a digital-only edition. Match this first issue with the final print edition, dated July 28, 2014, featuring Rory McIlroy holding the Claret Jug following his 2014 Open Championship win and you really have something!
