Lot of Three Centenary History Golf Course Books - Stonehaven, Portmarnock, & Mortonhall
A perfect offering for any golf historian, this lot presents three Centenary History Golf Course books. The books come from Stonehaven Golf Club, dating from 1888-1988; Portmarnock Golf Club 1894-1994; and Mortonhall Golf Club 1892-1992. Stonehaven GC is in the UK and interestingly enough, in August 1940 a bomb was dropped on the course by a German aircraft. The bomb was dropped only a hundred yards from the clubhouse, and the crater it left (now known as Hitler's Bunker) remains clearly visible today and is very much in play between the first and second fairways. Portmarnock GC is an Irish course and host of the first Irish Open in 1927, along with the British Amateur Championship in 1949, the Walker Cup in 1991, and the Canada Cup in 1960. Portmarnock has seen some of golf's greats play the course, including Harry Vardon, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Padraig Harrington, Phil Mickelson, Steve Ballestros, Tom Watson, David Duval, Tiger Woods, and Rory McIlroy. Mortonhall GC is the oldest course in Edinburgh and located in a historic area, just miles from Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street.
