Bob Goalby Signed Masters Logo Golf Ball with Year and Masters Inscription
Bob Goalby won the Masters Tournament in 1968, as indicated in the inscription of this signed Masters golf ball. Goalby signed the ball in black Sharpie with "68" visible below the Masters logo. This was Goalby's lone major championship, and it came with some controversy. Goalby had been tied with Roberto DeVicenzo at the end of 72 holes, but the 18-hole playoff never occurred due to a mistake on DeVicenzo's scorecard. The scorecard marked a par-4 on the 17th hole, a hole DeVicenzo had birdied. Failing to catch the error, DeVicenzo signed the scorecard, and according to PGA rules, the higher written score signed by a golfer must hold. This error gave Goalby the Masters championship.
James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this autograph and their certification of its authenticity will come with this lot.
