1929 US Amateur Championship Program - Del Monte - Harrison Johnston Winner - Rare
The Golf Auction is pleased to offer this rare official 1929 U.S. National Amateur Golf program, it is in near fine condition. Easily the biggest career win for the Minnesota native, the 1929 champion was Harrison R. Johnston beat Oscar F. Willing, 4 & 3, at Pebble Beach Golf Links. Johnston also played on four winning Walker Cup teams: 1923, 1924, 1928, and 1930. Notable from this tournament is how Bobby Jones was stopped in his tracks while trying to earn three Amateur Championships in a row – a record Jones is widely expected to set. Johnny Goodman did not get rattled by the hype as he went up three up on Jones after the first three holes of the first round. The two battle throughout the day, with Goodman the unlikely one-up leader when they come to 18. The pair halved the 18th hole with Goodman being one up, therefore knocking the mighty Jones from his peak and out of contention. Includes contributions from Grantland Rice and Jack Neville. Also included is a one page program order form!
