1985 Walker Cup at Pine Valley Golf Club Course Flown Flag - Rare
Pine Valley, the famed private golf course in southern New Jersey, played host to the 1985 Walker Cup. Presented here from the Assistant Superintendent at Pine Valley from 1983-1986, not to mention the Golf Course Superintendent from 1986-1988, is an actual used course flown flag from the 1985 Walker Cup. A true historical item from one of the most legendary courses can be a part of your collection, and we are pleased to offer such a great piece of Pine Valley history, not to mentioned Golf History. Public access to Pine Valley has been extremely rare throughout the years, with 1936 being the only other year the Walker Cup was held there. Items from Pine Valley are usually scarce and always in demand. The Walker Cup hosts the top amateurs in America against the top amateurs of Europe, the 1985 contest saw the United States defeated Great Britain & Ireland by a score of 13-11.
The often number one ranked golf course was designed by George Arthur Crump who knew the area from hunting expeditions. Pine Valley was Crump's first and only golf course. No holes at Pine Valley are parallel to the others, and no two consecutive holes to play in the same direction. Two other rules Crump followed was that players should not be able to see a hole other than the one they were playing, and finally that a round of golf should require a player to use every club in the bag.
