Bobby Jones Personal Greets Provost Robert Leonard G.M. Cowie Photo w/Richard Gordin Letter
Never has a native land so loved and embraced a foreign conquering hero than the occasion upon which Bobby Jones invaded the Kingdom of Fife. In 1958, the USGA thought the World Amateur was a perfect occasion to nominate Jones as USA team captain, to which he accepted his invitation to the home of golf. St. Andrews planned a welcome home of sorts for Jones, and they notified him that it wished to honor him during the week of the World Amateur competition. Jones was the second American to be awarded such an honor, after Benjamin Franklin received it many years pior. With the verso stamp from the Cowie photography studio comes this vintage scene of Jones Greeting Provost Robert Leonard. Accompanying letter from Richard Gordin, who had received the Jones personal photo from longtime assistant Jean Marshall. 8" x 10"
