Gene Sarazen's Personal Used & Painted Tommy Armour Macgregor Putter From Armour
From The Gene Sarazen Collection, with a signed letter of provenance from daughter Mary Ann comes this 'gamer' putter used by both Tommy Armour and then the man in which he out-dueled at the 1930 PGA Championship Gene Sarazen. Tommy Armour's late 1930's putter bearing his name, it was then gifted to Sarazen decades later when 'The Squire' tweaked it so he could use it. Custom silver painted ferrule and shaft, regripped (with Wilson) and used decades later by Gene Sarazen. This coat of paint was likely to skirt the Wilson Staff equipment contract, an adjustment that Sarazen was known to do at this time. Weight balance distribution, clean face, flat sole and semi-goose neck original produced to match Macgregor A-1 putter. 'Iron Masters' was shortened to 'Iron Master', with the iconic classic club produced throughout the 1960's. 'A' acts as the sightline on the top of flange putter head. Golf Pride grip. Similar to Wilson 8802 putter, Sarazen a longtime Wilson Staff member. Lead tape added to the backside of the head for additional weight set to The Squire's liking. 32 1/2"
