Marion Turpie Lake was coincidentally born in the home of golf St Andrews, Scotland, before moving to the states and specifically New Orleans only months later. Uncle Harry Turpie was Chick Evans' teacher and father George a head professional. She won five Women's Southern Golf Association Tournaments, including in 1928 when she carded a course record of 79 through 31 holes in the rain. after a pair of Louisiana Ladies State Golf Championships in 1927 and 1927 prior to moving east and taking three more Long Island Championship.
