Palmer, Nicklaus, Lema & others Signed 1965 St. Paul Open Program
The St. Paul Open was always a popular stop on the PGA tour and remains so to this day in the embodiment of the 3M Championship. Here we have the 1965 program. The tournament was played at the Keller Golf Course in St. Paul. It features the signature of Jack Nicklaus in a prominent position above the program title and the signature of Arnold Palmer just below the program title. Tony Lema also signed this program on the cover. He had just won the The Open championship a year earlier and sadly would die a year later in a plane crash. Jack Nicklaus is noted within the program as being the leading Money winner in 1964 ($116k) and Arnold Palmer is listed as the leading “Modern Era” (1947-1964) composite money leader at $586K. Other prominent golfers in the field included Ken Venturi, Sam Snead, Billy Casper, and Cary Middlecoff and Charles Sifford. Raymond Floyd would win the tournament with a 4-stroke victory over Tommy Aaron and Gene Littler. It is overall a great piece of St. Paul and PGA tour golf history, with early signatures of Nicklaus and Palmer residing on the front cover. Program is in very good condition and includes the initial paring sheet.
