1916 The Golf Course Pamphlet With 'Modern Golf Chats' Tillinghast Article
The Golf Course was a “monthly bulletin devoted to the discussion of modern methods as applied to golf course construction and upkeep.” This is April 1916 issue (Volume 1, No. 4.) covering pages 34 to 43 of the Bulletin series. The edges of these pamphlets are bound with cloth and three hole punched for apparent ultimate inclusion in a binder. This volume features a short article by A. W. Tillinghast titled “Modern Golf Chats”. Within Tillinghast discusses the shape of airways, including the first hole of the new course at Pine Valley which Tillinghast says presents an excellent example of the “ Dog-leg." He also speaks about his reconstruction of the nine hole course at Wernersville (Galen Hall Golf Club) and includes his rough sketch of its No. 6. Hole. Overall a nice one-off item for the Tillinghast or golf architecture collector.
