1936 Masters Tournament "Torchy" Toda Photo - First Japanese Golfer Invited AUTHENTIC PSA TYPE I

When Hideki Matsuyama won the 2022 Masters Tournament he also represented the country of Japan, a country with a rich history dating back to their very first contestants in only the third Masters of 1936. 'Torchy' Toda, who was along with Chick Chin, is captured just prior to Masters Tournament play getting underway in 1936. Chairman Clifford Roberts extended two special foreign invitations to the tournament, Japanese ambassador to the US Hiroshi Saito even went to support them that week. Preparing for the tournament perhaps both mentally and physically, Toda is depicted in this photo looking directly at the photographer on the Augusta National Golf Club practice green with the clubhouse seen over his left shoulder. The verso affixed corresponding caption reads as follows: "Preparing for Masters golf tournament Torchoi Toda, popular Japanese golfer, gets club course on which he will compete in the Masters Tournament starting April 2. It has been encapsulated for valuation (TYPE I), preservation and presentation. PSA #84959877 6" x 8"
