Babe Zaharias' 1931 Sterling Silver Louis Esser Gifted WSGA Trophy Putter 1938
From The Babe Zaharias Foundation and specifically Zaharias' estate comes one of the most prized items in her collection, Babe D. Zaharias’ 1938 wedding gift this engraved sterling silver golf putter with a
hickory shaft, leather grip. It was initially awarded to the winner of the WSGA Louis Esser 1931
trophy. It was then presented to Babe by Lou whom he spent time with at the 1932 Olympics.
This putter is now heavily engraved “To Babe from Lou – Dec. 23, 1938”. Babe played with the
putter in several tournaments but stopped after Big George warned her about the possibility of
it being stolen. 34 1/2." A signed letter of provenance from Babe Zaharias Foundation founder Hal Shaw comes with this lot.
