A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity arose for the West Orange, New Jersey golfing community in 1931 when it was announced that recent Grand Slam winner sporting giant Bobby Jones would be playing an exhibition alongside leading golfers of the day US Amateur and prior US Open winner Francis Ouimet, US Open victor in '31 Billy Burke and Open runner-up, 1926 Am' champion George Von Elm. This Great Depression bout would lift spirits, with the gallery lining the fairway, as depicted in the wire photo of the gentlemen side by side that day. Burke only months after topping the scoreboard at Inverness would shoot an even par at Essex and win the exhibition by three. The verso includes the corresponding caption and additional notation from the Bettmann collection. 8 1/2" x 6 1/2"
