Eddie Stimpson Personally Gifted Original Stimpmeter at Weston MA in 1973

How are the greens rolling? It's a common question throughout golf and the higher number on the Stimpmeter the quicker they are playing. The crucial tool for the greenskeeper is of course the Stimpmeter, named after Eddie Stimpson. Here is a personally gifted Stimpmeter by Stimpson to the consignor during golf school in 1973 at Leo J. Martin in Weston, MA.

Our consignor's meeting and receiving this very example of the famous metal ball chute is as follows, recounted now over 50 years later as a vivid memory: "Eddie Stimpson, a dapper gentleman, visited my golf school at Leo J. Martin Golf Course in Weston, MA in June 1973. His wife Peggy, was attending the program for two days. We visited quite a bit during the two days, when the class had short breaks, and I really liked him and his enthusiasm for anything golf. I had a break mid-week, before I started another two day program on Thursday/Friday, and he asked me to play a round at his club, THE Country Club in Brookline which I did. He then came out to Leo J. Martin GC on Thursday, and during lunch break we go to the putting green and he shows me the Stimpmeter and explains everything about it and then gives it to me. Of course I accepted as I thought it was pretty neat. I did not use it during my schools for the remaining of the summer, and just wrapped it in plastic when I got home to Colorado and it has been in a closet all this time!" 30"
