Payne Stewart's 1990 World Cup Tournament Winning NFL Logo Red/White/Blue Shirt w/Pants
In the World Cup tournament, it was only appropriate that the American and proud patriot Payne Stewart didn't just win, but wore Stars and Stripes - in only a way that he could - in victory! Here is that exact outfit. Stewart's 17-under par was good for a 2 stroke individual title on November 24 at the 1990 World Cup hosted by Grand Cypress Resort in his hometown of Orlando, Florida. Payne's winning Antigua branded size Large shirt with the United States flag inspired design of a blue and white stars quadrant and sleeve on the left and right sleeve and bottom of the shirt displaying red and white stripes. A unique clothing partnership that will likely never be duplicated was Payne Stewart's deal with the National Football League, with the embroidered NFL logo shield on the white of the left chest. For years Payne would be outfitted by the NFL in the closest team to that week's tournament host club, unless overseas (at The Open in 1990 he wore this same style outfit) or playing for his country in an international competition such as this one; as if the fans needed anymore reason to pull for the golfer. His matching navy blue knickers worn by the champion to win the 1990 World Cup Individual tournament are also Antigua crafted and size 34 as sported by the inside tag on the back pocket. The 32-team event title went to Germany rostered by Bernhard Langer and Torsten Giedeon. There are welcomed signs of usage consistent of tournament play on the late, great Payne Stewart's patriotic ensemble in this lot, please key in on the very slight discoloration on the white of the shirt below the blue stars.
