1959 National Golf Day Medal
Reverse inscription reads:
'Round of the Champion Winner'
The National Golf Day was instituted in 1952 by the PGA of America to promote the game and serve as a fund raiser for its charitable wing. Each of the PGA's 4,300 pros were encouraged to play that day in return for a contribution from their playing partner. This event also featured a beat the top professional of the days posted score. Golfers that were able to best the pros score received a commemorative medal. The later day medals were 1" diameter.These featured a competition between the reigning PGA and U.S. Open champion from the proceeding year. In the earliest years it was beat the score of the U.S. Open champ with 1 1/4" diameter medal as the prize presented for the achievement.
