1944 San Francisco Open Tournament Program - Byron Nelson Winner
In 1944, Byron Nelson opened the year with a win at the San Francisco Victory Open. In a quirk of scheduling he captured his eighth and final win of the season the first week in December again in the City by the Bay claiming the San Francisco Open played at Harding Memorial Park Municipal Golf Course. The eight win season earned Nelson the 1944 Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year honors. But the eight wins in 1944 were only a harbinger of greater things to come in '45 when Lord Byron would win a record 18 times on Tour. The program from the '44 San Francisco Open is offered in Excellent condition (slight center crease) in this lot.
