1953 “President Dwight D Eisenhower Visits Augusta Georgia” Postal Cover

Per an article in The Washington Post, President Eisenhower made it a regular practice to visit Augusta National after the conclusion of the Masters tournament. In 1953, he was scheduled to throw out the first pitch in the Washington Senators baseball opener on April 13 but he passed on the opportunity to throw out the first pitch to play golf with Masters champion Ben Hogan at Augusta instead. Hogan had just claimed his historic win at Augusta.Later an article was written in the June 2, 1953 issue of Look magazine by Ben Hogan and he recounted his round with Ike. A round was played with Ben, Ike, Byron Nelson and Cliff Roberts. Bobby Jones rode along in his golf cart for the first nine holes. This postal cover was created to recognize his visit and was mailed and postmarked from Augusta GA. On April 13, 1953. It also has Apr 13 1953 imprinted on the back. It features a nice blue ink stamped picture of Eisenhower in his trademark hat standing with a golf club with the Augusta National club house in the background. This is one of the rarer covers related to Augusta National and has nice connections to “Ike” , The Augusta National Golf Club, the Masters and Ben Hogan.
