Ken Venturi Signed Golf Digest April 1958 Issue
The 5 1/2" x 8 1/4" April 1958 Masters preview issue Golf Digest cover depicting Ken Venturi is very foreshadowing with his prediction "Why I think I can win the Masters". Venturi would have the lead in the event after a round one 68 and the two round lead at 140. He was within one stroke of Arnold Palmer as the paired twosome reached the 12th hole on Championship Sunday. That is were the famous embedded ball lie of Palmer occurred. With the on hole official denying Palmer a free drop which led to a double bogey score of 5 on the hole and a one shot lead in theory for Venturi. Palmer then played a second ball which led to a par 3, and the ruling went in his favor two holes later. Palmer, as a result, had retained the lead by one shot and went on to a historical career which began with his 1958 Masters title. Meanwhile Venturi faltered down the stretch amid the controversy. Capture this historical time in Masters and golf history with this excellent condition copy of Golf Digests April 1958 edition which has been cover signed in black sharpie by Venturi. James Spence Authentication (JSA) provides a letter of authenticity for the Venturi autograph in this lot.
