1956 US Open at Oak Hill Country Club Program - Cary Middlecoff Winner
Cary Middlecoff in 1956 claimed his third and final Major with his win at the 1956 United States Open (1949 U.S. Open & 1955 Masters). Regarded as a player who would always be in contention due to an accurate driver and deft putting stroke. When the elite threesome of marksmen in Ted Kroll, Julius Boros and Ben Hogan could not produce birdies down the stretch at Oak Hill. Middlecoff ducked and survived their volleys at the lead to hold on for a one shot win over Hogan and Boros. With three Major wins to go along with a career filled with other lesser PGA triumphs, Middlecoff's ticket to the Hall of Fame was punched on that June day in '56. Fully intact program from that 1956 U.S. Open win of Middlecoff has a length of publication cover crease from bottom center to upper right front side of book. This limits visual value of item, but certainly not its wealth of inside information on the history of the U.S. Open and the exciting players which made up the Tour in the 1950's.
