Two Matching Unger Bros. Sterling Silver Golfer Embossed Containers In Leather Carry Case

Both cylindrical containers are embossed with a golfer at the top of his backswing with a ball at his feet. The larger one is 3 & ½” tall and 1 ¼” in diameter. The smaller one is also 3 & ½ “ tall but only 1 7/8” in diameter. Both containers have tops that are tightly fitted and pull off. The small container also has a bottom the twists off. The bottom of the larger container is marked “Sterling 925 fine” surrounding the Unger Bros mark. In addition, both containers are marked AAP Co with a hallmark that appears to be for London and 1902. ( Lion, letter g and leopards head. ) The function of these containers is somewhat of a mystery. We believe the leather case (tip of strap is missing) indicates they were perhaps meant to be carried on the course in a golf bag or jacket pocket. We surmise the larger container could be for a small amount of liquid refreshment or serve as a a nice container to keep cigarettes dry or hold pipe tobacco. When the bottom of the smaller container is detached and turned on its flat side the other open end neatly holds a golf ball. An (impractical) tee perhaps?? Regardless of function these containers display impressively and are a good example of Victorian era golf themed item extravagance.
