1928 LA Open Championship Contestant Badge - Macdonald Smith Winner

Four leaf clovers and blue moons, they just don't come around that often. The same can be said for pre-1930's golf contestants pins. Much less from a top tournament from the Hickory Shaft era like the Los Angeles Open. Offered in this lot is a 1 1/2" diameter contestants pin from the 1928 L.A. (3rd year of existence) Open. With original pin back still intact, this gem, features rich engraving on front with traditional oxidation of the metal occurring on its verso side. Highlighting the front side text of the pin is the bold $10,000, signifying how rich for the time period this tournament was. The event at the time was billed as the"greatest golfing classic the West has ever known". MacDonald Smith began his domination of the L.A. Open with three stroke victory (his first of a record 4 at the event) that topped Harry Cooper over the barranca-woven links of the Wilshire Country Club.

Please note: This auction will end at 7:00pm EST on August 2nd with extended bidding to follow. All items in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period. All lots are free to be bid on until extended bidding has ended
