1950 National Pro-Am Championship Program Signed by Jack Burke

Don't be confused by the big 9th Bing Crosby Pro-Am which appears on the cover of this program, it was actually the 10th time Crosby had brought Amateurs and Professional golfers together with the first event in 1937 actually being titled the Rancho Santa Fe Amateur Pro. One needs to look no further then the copyright on the back cover for a Bing Crosby ad which clearly states 1950. With that out of the way, the real story of the 1950 Bing Crosby was Ben Hogan in his second tournament following a long hospitalization and recuperation from injuries sustained in his automobile-bus collision. With rounds of 77-74-72 it showed Hogan had a long way to go. He however showed a glimpse of the past and the future with an eagle 3 on the 6th hole in the final round. When the smoke had cleared it was a four way tie for the title, with no playoff, between Dave Douglas, Sam Snead, Smiley Quick and Jack Burke. What a way to get your first PGA win, but a win is a win is a win and that it was for Burke (the first of 16 in his Hall of Fame career). Jack Burke has autographed this cover of the ex/mt publication from his first career PGA win. The Burke autograph in this lot has been reviewed by James Spence Authentication (JSA), and their letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
