1941 Los Angeles Open Program with Johnny Bulla Signed Cut

When the 16th edition of the 1941 Los Angeles Open got underway. it was a young drugstore employee from Chicago who stole the headlines. Johnny Bulla, a non-PGA member, using 35 cent Walgreens bargain counter golf balls (when pros of the day were using 75 cent balls), nearly destroyed the course in round two. After an eagle on the first hole, he shot seven straight threes, turning the front nine in 30. He slowed up a bit on the back, but still turned in a 66. A two stroke penalty for hitting the wrong ball almost put an end to Bulla's rags to riches quest. He however came back strong on the final day witha 69 for a two stroke win over Craig Wood. The program in near mint condition from the 1941 Los Angeles Open, and a 3 x5 signed by its champion Johnny Bulla is offered in this lot. Pre World War II paper is always a popular collectible regardless of the sport. James Spence Authentication provides certification for the Bulla autograph in this lot.
