1945 1st Annual Fort Worth Open Golf Championship Program
The condition of this early treasure of Texas golf can not be presented in any better then fair condition with obvious significant damage to both front and rear covers. When it comes to significance of event and the history represented to the Texas golf scene, it is pure MINT. Contested December 14-16, 1945, just at the close of World War II, this was the beginning of the rich relationship the PGA Tour has had with Texas since that date. A most fitting course which this event was contested at was Glen Garden in Fort Worth. It was at this tract that both Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson came up through the caddie ranks. Facing off for the first of many times in their rich lifetimes, on this course, in the clubs caddie championship (as won by Byron). It is only fitting they are featured on this program cover in light of that. Oh yes, they were also two of the most dominant players of 1940's golf. If you claim to be a historian of golf this is one item that screams for inclusion in your collection.
We at The Golf Auction are proud to have the opportunity to represent Mark and Cynthia Brooks in the auctioning of items from their collection of golf books, art work and mementos assembled over a PGA career which began in 1983 and has encompassed a remarkable 799 career PGA tournaments. This great run of golf at its highest level has been highlighted by seven PGA Tour wins, his play as a victorious member of the 1996 United States Presidents Cup team, and of course his Major triumph at the 1996 PGA Championship.
