Ben Hogan Signed 1949 Time Magazine
The cover of Time Magazine in the 1940's was most often reserved for world leaders and royalty. Ben Hogan fit neither when he received the honor for the January 10, 1949 issue. He had risen to golf royalty in 1948 winning both the US Open and PGA championships and this made him magazine worthy when Time Magazine showed up at Riviera C.C. to cover his appearance at the PGA stop that January. Four pages were dedicated to him in the magazine including a time lapse sequence of his swing which had already reached mythic proportions. Within a month of this cover, his game at the height of success would come to a quick halt on a Texas highway in a near-fatal automobile accident. The issue of that famous Time Magazine is offered here complete. Like Hogan who was sometimes rough around the edges this copy of time is rough around the edges (corners), and has one small area of paper loss on back cover. Mr. Hogan has added a precise signature to the lower right corner of the magazine. This signature of Hogan has been reviewed by James Spence Authentication, and their letter of authenticity comes with this item.
