Frank Stranahan 1955 Eastern Open Mayor D'Alesandro Trophy
Frank Stranahan claimed his first win since turning professional (he had 4 PGA triumphs as an amateur) at the 1955 Eastern Open played at Baltimore's 6,895 yard Municipal Mt. Pleasant course. He dropped a putt of about 18 inches for the one stroke margin of victory over his playing partner Art Wall. Stranny would card a 280 for the week, eight strokes under par.His victor's trophy for the event is offered in this lot. It is named the D'Alessandro trophy after the sitting Mayor of Baltimore Thomas D'Alessandro who was in office from 1947-59. Dimensions of the award are base 5" x 5", standing 13 1/2" tall. The top is separated from the base, but can be fixed.
