Frank Stranahan's 1953 Insurance City Open 1st Place Amateur Clock

The Insurance City Open in 1953 was in its second year of play, but this event would continue as a staple of the PGA Tour growing to be known as the Sammy Davis Jr. Greater Hartford Open and its current name The Travelers Championship. The 1953 event was contested at the Wethersfield Country Club and saw Bob Toski post a 15 under score of 269 to claim the championship. Finishing in a tie for seventh overall with Art Wall at ten under 274 was Frank Stranahan. His third round score of 65 had equaled Julius Boros for the low score in the 72 hole event. For his accomplishments that week Stranahan was the 1st place amateur in the field. He received the ornate 8 1/4" x 6 1/2" x 9 1/4" Le Coultre of Switzerland clock we offer in this lot.

This outstanding representation of Swiss craftmanship still works
