Arlington 1898 Brambling Golf Ball
Excellent condition, good paint. A Kempshall Arlington with a guttie cover stamped 'Pat. 17554, Aug. 15, 1898' and Arlington at the opposite. Original paint and a few minor iron marks. A must for the ball collector because of the patent date of 1898.
Coburn Haskell, an American inventor, had come up with the idea of a compressed rubber ball made from cut up rubber strips that were stretched and wound into a sphere. He applied to patent the Haskell ball in the United States on 9 August 1898 and was later granted Patent No. 17,554 as seen on the ball. Haskell franchised the rights to his invention to a handful of golf ball manufacturers to make golf balls and one of these was an American company called Kempshall Manufacturing, based in Arlington New Jersey. So now we present to you the ‘Arlington’ brambling golf ball.
