Karsten Ping 1A Redwood City Putter

The birth of the Ping 1A was way back in 1959 at the infamous Redwood City garage. Tirelessly working on his renowned club, the Norwegian born Karsten Solheim is putting the finishing touches to the rev-elating putter. By hollowing out the center and cutting two slots in the bottom of the putter head, Solheim redistributed the weight to the heel and toe, and not the center of the block. All heel and toe weighted putters were birthed from Solheim's. Despite not as appealing to the eye as the others, the technology of the Ping 1A was heads above the rest. The large sweet-spot was due to the greater amount of weight in the heel and toe. The launching point for the Anser that would come years later started right here with this putter, the Ping 1A.
