Johnny Miller Signed Original 1973 US Open Winning Clubs & Bag Painting 'Summer of '73' by Artist Wimmer
Painter Sandy Wimmer loves to create art that has a story to tell. When a friend related the tale of Johnny Miller’s 1973 U.S. Open win—using a set of old clubs with plenty of lead tape—she just knew she had to paint a commemorative work of Miller’s clubs. Johnny Miller graciously hand signed and dated the piece '2023', marking the 50th anniversary in 2023 of this great accomplishment. Wimmer’s paintings can be found in private collections throughout the United States and in Europe, including that of a nationally syndicated radio host.
It's hard to believe that the suave blonde haired Johnny Miller's unprecedented final round carding of 63 was 50 years ago this year. The story starring Miller, who much of the current generation knows primarily as a blunt golf analyst, shooting the first 63 in major championship history to rally and win by a single shot took yet another unlikely turn when Miller owned up to the lack of technology in his bag later. “It was the oldest set of clubs [in relation] to the year it was played on Tour in the history of golf.” Wimmer created this work of art titled 'Summer of '73' with the famous bag of Miller's "prehistoric" MacGregor Tourney clubs housed in his green and white MacGregor staff bag in front of a plain background of blue and green "ground." It has been tastefully matted and framed in white and black respectively. 21 1/2" x 25 1/2"
