James Foulis Manuscript w/LOA. Presented here is the "THE EDGEWATER GREENS" by James Foulis, the famous golf architect born in the "home of golf", St. Andrews Scotland. His Father once a foreman at Old Tom Morris's golf shop, and Foulis also worked for some time in the clubmaking business. A wonderful manuscript written by the 1896 US Open Champion Jim Foulis, he was also one of the eleven competitors in the first U.S. Open in 1895. This manuscript is highlighted by his greenskeeping measures at Edgewater Golf Club, as well as the boasting of his playing credentials, "During those years I played competitive golf I was third in the National Open at Newport, Rhode Island; won it at Shinnecock Hills in 1896; and was third again in the National Open at Chicago Golf Club. I played off and on until 1910 and was several times in the prize money." These are part of a four page report with one page unfortunately missing. The manuscript is also left unsigned. Nearly 100 years old, this item does come with some edges showing wear.
