Jack Nicklaus Signed St. Andrews Old Course Embroidered Flag with Years Won Notation
Jack Nicklaus leaves his signature on this 2005 Open Championship at St. Andrews embroidered flag, a course that saw him raise the Claret Jug after winning in 1970 and 1978. The 2005 Open marked Nicklaus' final Open Championship appearance, and he may have been feeling a bit uneasy leaving as he watched Tiger Woods lead wire to wire to win his tenth Major championship, completing his second career grand slam in the process. Tiger's 14 Major victories still pose the biggest threat to Jack's record 18, though the record looks to stand for some time now. Nicklaus left his signature here on the flag in blue marker, as well as a notation of "1966, 70, 78," the years he hoisted the Claret Jug.
James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed the signature and their auction letter of authenticity will come with this lot.
