1957 Tam O'Shanter World Championship Pin
This lot features Jack Fleck's 1" x 1" metal contestant pin/badge from the 1957 World Golf Championship. Detailed pin is etched on front with "PROFESSIONAL", "WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OF GOLF", "1957", "GEORGE S. MAY'S TAM O SHANTER" and "CHICAGO USA". Dick Mayer in 1957,his finest professional season, would win the U.S. Open and its $7,200 paycheck. He followed up in August with a win at The World Championship which paid almost seven times more at $50,000. Tournament owner and financier, George May, in a squabble with the PGA concluded the event after the 1957 event. This was a loss to golf and also the players pocket books, with case in point, Arnold Palmer pacing money winners in 1958 for the season with less money then Dick Mayer won alone for his 1957 World Championship win. Fleck's contest badge for the 1957 final season of the World Championship remains in near mint condition with reverse clasping pin still in working condition.
Please note: This auction will end at 7:00pm EST on September 28th with extended bidding to follow. All items in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period. All lots are free to be bid on until extended bidding has ended.
