1977 US Open Contestant Pin - Jack Fleck
This 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" contestants pin which belonged to Jack Fleck carries the same traditional design which the United States Golf Association began employing for its Championships beginning with the 1960 Mens U.S. Open. At 55 years old, this was Fleck's return to major championship golf after a long layoff. For Fleck, who lived in Arkansas, he had extra incentive to play in the '77 Open which was a short two hours from his home at the Sothern Hills course in Tulsa. With only 153 contestants in the field these players pins are very scarce. Coming from a past U.S. Open champion makes this example even more cherished.
