Jack Fleck's 1957 PGA Championship Money Clip - Lionel Herbert Winner

In 1957 Jack Fleck facing a PGA championship field of 128 players in match play posted 4&3 win over Terl Johnson before falling 1 up to Eldon Briggs. The badge of contestants admittance that year for the PGA was an enamel faced 1 ½” x 2 ½” money clip which carried engraving 1957 on its facing side. Fleck's money clip issued for the '57 event is offered here still retaining all it's original enamel. The reverse of this memento carries stampings of where these matches were contested "Miami Valley Golf Club" "Dayton, Ohio" and the date July 17-21. This lot offers the seldom seen opportunity to know exactly which contestant own this badge as many of the PGA contestants badges, from the original 128 issued to players, can often not be associated to any specific player. Adding extra value to this example is the known quantity of Jack Fleck and his status as a major winner of the 1955 U.S. Open. Reverse inscription reads:

Miami Valley Golf Club
Dayton, Ohio
July 17-21

2 3/8" x 1 1/2"
