Horton Smith Signed & Dated '1948' Detroit Golf Club Scorecard with '62 Record Score'
The annual Masters Tournament continues to dominate the world of golf year in and year out. From branding to merchandising to gathering those that normally don't watch golf on television, The Masters Tournament is simply captivating. The first and third tournament champion is one in the same, as Horton Smith became synonymous with Augusta National and their inaugural and first multi-champion. The late Smith also sadly passed away prior to any other champion in 1963, leaving present collectors searching for his highly legible signature. Look no further than the signed and inscribed significant circa 1948 scorecard in which Horton Smith added with pleasure the scoring record of "62" that he shot on his longtime home course. The 1946-1963 Detroit Golf Club head professional left his signature and date '1948' on this vintage scorecard from his home course, commemorating his North Course record of 62 in strong blue ballpoint pen. Scorecard does have a backing that it is attached too, but could be easily removed. We have left that to the winning bidder. 10 3/4" x 3 1/8." James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
