Hale Irwin's 1999 Senior PGA Tour Player of the Month Medal - May
Win twice in the same year on tour and it was a nice season. Twice in the same month, only three weeks apart, Hale Irwin all but engraved his own name on this gold filled medal from May of 1999 carrying the distinct honor of 'Senior PGA Tour Player of the Month.' The Nationwide Championship was first. On May 9th Irwin captured his first title of the year and 21st of his PGA Champions Tour career by the slimmest of margins over Bob Murphy at the Golf Club of Georgia. Less than three weeks later another Hale Storm occurred, this time en route to victory at the Boone Valley Classic at the Boone Valley Golf Club. Along with the rest of the field, fellow major champion Al Geiberger was the victim of that inclement weather pattern - coming up 2 strokes short. Stamped with the gold filled precious metal notation on the verso is his engraved medal awarded by the Senior PGA Tour for Mr. Irwin's 1999 May accomplishments that made it easy for the tour. A signed letter of provenance from Hale Irwin comes with this lot.
