Hale Irwin's 1991 Ryder Cup at Kiawah Island USA Team Member Jacket
Custom made for Hale Irwin by Hamilton. Dated 9/5/91, Coat #433088 Personal Memorabilia from Hall of Famer Hale Irwin's career rarely comes on the market. With a 13-5-2 record in his five Ryder Cup appearances, he ranks in the top ten all-time in most Ryder Cup Points Won. With no larger tally for the U.S. in his career Ryder Cup appearances then at Kiawah. There he was involved in one of the most consequential and pressure-packed singles matches in Ryder Cup history when he earned a half-point against Bernhard Langer in the final match of 1991, providing the 14-13 U.S. margin of triumph. Valuing the traditions of the game as he does, clearly the Ryder Cup is an event that Hale has always cherished.
With that in mind offered here is a seldom seen, piece of museum quality haberdashery which was custom tailored for Irwin(who had qualified for the '91 team on the strength of his third U.S. Open victory) by the Hamilton Suit Company in Cincinnati, Ohio. Hamilton is also the tailor of the Masters green jackets for the Augusta National. Highlighting the design of this, all original, jacket are buttons which bear the logo of the Ryder Cup at Kiawah Island along with the breast pocket 1991 Ryder Cup patch. On the inside Union Tag it is notated IRWIN HALE and the date of manufacturing 09/05/91.
