Hal Sutton's 1980 NCAA Golf Championships Second Place Trophy
Highly decorated amateur at the Shreveport, Louisiana's Centenary College, Hal Sutton, made his professional debut in 1981, but not before collecting some serious hardware. Proudly presented here is the 'Golf Magazine' 1980 College Player of the Year's NCAA Championships second place trophy. Hal finished runner-up in the NCAA Championship losing to Jay Don Blake in a grueling four hole playoff, while propelling his team to 9th nationally to outplace many power-five conference teams. This amateur award, presented to the 22-year old Sutton a year before going pro is 8 5/8" wide and carries two embedded medals presented tastefully on a wood base. A signed letter of provenance from Hal Sutton comes with this lot.
