THE AL KELLEY COLLECTION - PGA & SENIOR TOUR PROFESSIONAL
Al Kelley like The Golf Auction itself was a resident of Central Florida. This kind gentleman cherished the game of golf, so much, even though he had the talent to play inside the ropes, he still had the patience to give a high handicapper a lesson on the front yard of his home. This occurred just short months ago before his passing in December of 2017. Many golf collectors know Al Kelley only from his appearance in the 1991 Pro Set edition of golf trading cards depicting PGA & Senior Tour players. This is understandable with only limited PGA Tour events over six seasons along with major appearances in the 1971 PGA Championship and 1978 U.S. Open. Which followed a proficient amateur career highlighted by wins in the 1960 and 1962 Florida Amateurs along with championships while a member of the University of Florida's golf team. Following those years, Al settled into his career as a successful Club and Teaching professional. Employing his knowledge of the flat stick, he taught the three P's of putting -"Path, pace and position. If you have those three, then you'll be fine." The urge to test his game against the best still burned inside of Kelly. He was able to meet that desire when he qualified for the Senior Tour in 1988. From 1988-93, Kelly would finish in the top 61 money winners on the veterans loop each year which included 15 Top 10 finishes and was highlighted by a Senior Tour win at the 1990 Newport Cup. Through the highs and lows of both the PGA and Senior Tours, Al never wavered from his dedication to the Methodist church, where he taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served on the executive council. He will be missed as a friend of the church, a friend of The Golf Auction, but for the fortunate many he taught the game of golf to his lessons will live on every time we tee it up. Enjoy items Al acquired over his years at the highest levels of the game in this auction.
Please note: This auction will end at 5:00pm EST on Sunday, March 4th, with EXTENDED BIDDING to follow. All items in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period. Still the lowest rate among major golf auction houses, a buyer's premium of 17.5% for all items is now in effect. All lots are free to be bid on until extended bidding has ended.
