George Smith's Model Anti-Shank Smooth Face Niblick - J.Lilly White

George Smith, an amateur player from Lancashire, devised a new neck line on his anti-shank iron. This directional iron would grow to be known as "Smith's Model" as seen stamped on this Niblick. Smith bent back the lower half of the hosel and attached it to the top of the blade while keeping the top half of the hosel aligned with the blades leading edge. In addition, he placed extra weight behind the toe and heel in order to better balance the club and to counteract any inaccuracy in striking with either of these portions of the club. Smith necks were produced with or without heel and toe weighting. Please see photos for better assessment of clubs condition.
