Gene Sarazen's 1971 Masters Tournament Competitor Bag Tag with Letter

This sought-after Masters Tournament Competitor bag tag from 1971 belonged to the tournament's second champion, striker of 'the Shot Heard Round the World.' The early green and red (flag) logo contains the four tournament dates of 1971, along with the Augusta National Golf Club Professionals Bob Kletcke and Dave Spencer along with of course "Gene Sarazen" in bold jet black font. Used by Sarazen 51 years ago for the tournament, this tag shows it with some welcomed soiling that is to be expected. Gene's double eagle in 1935 remains one of the most storied shots in tournament lore, honored with a bridge at Augusta National and his spot as longtime Honorary Starter alongside Snead and Nelson. This hangs on the end of a leather strap with a metal backing. This personal item with Masters content from the celebrated past champion with the moniker The Squire, Gene Sarazen, will demand interest from Masters collectors. A signed letter of provenance from Gene Sarazen's daughter on the Sarazen Foundation letterhead accompanies this lot.

AUCTION CLOSING RULES:

Place your bids now as this auction will close LOT BY LOT beginning at 10:00pm EDT Sunday, June 19th. When placing your INITIAL bid in the auction, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items with multiple bidders in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval, and the clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!

1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will automatically close at 10pm EDT
4. All available lots will begin closing on a LOT BY LOT basis at 10pm EDT
