Gene Sarazen, Bobby Jones & Clifford Roberts at 1955 Masters Bridge Ceremony Original Kodak Photo - Sarazen Collection
The Sarazen Bridge marks Gene Sarazen’s double eagle on the 15th hole of Augusta National in the final round of the Masters in 1935. It enabled him to tie Craig Wood, and Sarazen prevailed the next day in the tournament’s only 36-hole playoff. Augusta National unveiled the Sarazen Bridge on Wednesday, April 6, 1955. It was designed by Augusta architect H. Lowrey Stulb, and it is located to the left of the pond fronting the 15th green. The flat footbridge was dedicated in 1955 to commemorate Sarazen’s “Shot Heard ’Round the World.” Offered here is an uncommon color photo of both Bobby Jones AND Clifford Robert with Gene Sarazen on the bridge, that is dated on the verso Kodak August 4, 1955 - developed only a few months after the event. 3 1/4 x 3." A signed letter of provenance from Mary Ann Sarazen will come with this lot.
