Gene Sarazen 1993 Masters Invitation with Envelope and Notation
An invitation addressed to Gene Sarazen to the 1993 Masters Tournament is offered in this lot. Not only is the invitation present and nicely framed, but the envelope with markings from Sarazen are present confirming his eventual presence to the 1993 Masters. The deceased 1935 champion helped put The Masters (the Augusta National Invitational Tournament as it was known by then) on the map with his infamous double eagle. The 7x major winner Sarazen hit "the shot heard 'round the world", it was a final round 235-yard 4-wood on the par-5 15th hole that went in, giving him a very rare double eagle 2 on the hole. The Sarazen Bridge at Augusta National is named to commemorate the 20th anniversary of this feat. It remains one of the most famous shots in golf history.
