Frank Stranahan's 1942 Canadian Open Best Amateur Score Tray

Inscription reads:

Frank STranahan
Best Amateur Score
1942
Canadian Open
Mississauga Golf Club
Toronto

After shooting a one under 71 in the first round Frank Stranahan as a 20 year-old amateur in 1942 gave notice of things to come when he fired a second round 67, five under par, in the Canadian Open golf championship. Stranahan's round was two strokes better then anyone in the field, and he picked up four strokes on the first round leader Ben Hogan and two on both Craig Wood and Ralph Guldahl, the halfway leaders. Stranahan would finish at 284 for the 72 holes, 9 strokes behind champion Craig Wood at 275. But warning had been sounded to the greatest field of shotmakers around. His 284 score was two better then Skee Riegel in the simon pure division and earned Stranahan the low amateurs tray we offer in this lot.
