Francis Ouimet Signed Typed 1946 Letter to Colonel Probst with the USGA
Francis D. Ouimet was known affectionately as the "Father of Amateur Golf" and of course champion of the 1913 US Open. Playing the lead role in one of the most storied victories in golf history, Ouimet was victorious at his home course of The Country Club of Brookline. Famously employing his 10-year old caddy Eddie Lowery, images of the pair walking with the bag that day are looked back on when remembering that day. Later he continued to give back to the game he was so fond of. Francis Ouimet concluded the letter by penning his name on this United States Golf Association letterhead to Colonel Probst in strong green ink. In the body of Ouimet's letter is significant subjects that he wanted to cover with the personal friend of his. Francis Ouimet starts off the letter thanking Colonel Probst for his service, as Probst would be returning home from deployment only weeks later. Ouimet then expresses his appreciation to him for his help in the USGA Museum and Public Links affairs that Probst offered to lend his knowledge and experience to. Ouimet finishes his personal letter by explaining that they have made exciting additions to the USGA Museum and are looking forward to the "four major championships" in 1946. A letter of from PGA Historian Bob Denney will accompany this lot.
