Dwight D. Eisenhower Signed White House Letter to Captain Houghton - 3/10/1960
A typed letter, dated March 10, 1960 from sitting 34th President of the United States Dwight D. Eisenhower to Group Captain George Houghton RAF, thanking him for the gift of his latest "Addicts" satire book on golf.The letter is on White House stationery and is signed in black fountain pen: "Dwight Eisenhower". The signature grades "10". George Houghton was a World War II Royal Air Force officer turned prolific golf writer and cartoonist. Of his works one reviewer said: "George Houghton's " "Addict" is the "little man" of golf who likes to think himself, and is, the backbone of the game. Golf cuts us all down to size, and we realize that, on the links at any rate, we are all little men...No better example of this and his golf game, fashioned as a member at the Augusta National in less then grand performances, was Eisenhower the man who saved the world from the horrors of World War II and now was a two term President at the time of this penning.
