1990 USGA Amateur Championship Semi-Finalist Medal - Cherry Hills

David Edger steadily advanced through his first four matches in the 1990 United States amateur championship before running into the pre tournament favorite Phil Mickelson in the semifinals. Mickelson using his extreme length advantage off the tee prevailed 5 and 3. Phil would gain the Amateur Championship the next day with a 5 and 4 triumph over Manny Zerman. This victory gave him the seldom achieved double in the same year of Championships in both the NCAA and Amateur events. Last performed by Jack Nicklaus in 1961. For his efforts in the Amateur David Eger received the medal which is offered in this lot. It is engraved as follows:

1990

Cherry Hills Country Club
Englewood, CO

This memento from Eger's match against the boy wonder, Mickelson, measures 1 3/4" diameter.
