Dated 1929 Johnny Farrell (U.S. Open Champ 1929)Signed Golf Ball
This lot features a Spalding black dot professional golf ball, displaying use, signed by Johnny Farrell in black ink. With dating of 1929 in an unknown hand. The Spalding black dot was the favored ball among professionals in this time period with Bobby Jones using it during his Grand Slam campaign of 1930. Voted "Best Golf Professional" in 1927 and 1928, Farrell beat Bobby Jones by one stroke in the 36 hole playoff to win the 1928 United States Open. Farrell was also a member of the first three Ryder Cup teams for the United States in 1927, 1929, and 1931. This rarely seen ball signed by one of the greats from the golden age of golf is a must have addition for any serious signed golf ball collection! It marks the first Farrell signed golf ball handled by The Golf Auction, and well may be the only known vintage example which dates to the height of his career. Signed golf balls from the 1920's are exceedingly scarce. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature, and their letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
